Customized Denim By Gas Jeans

GAS denim brand belongs to family business Grotto Company and was established in 1970 in Italy by Claudio Grotto. Mr. Grotto inherited a garment factory from his mother and started to produce modern personalized clothes which stood out compared with classical Italian cuts of the 1970s. The target audiences of the brand are primarily young people. GAS customized denim collections reveal their modern values and reflect their individuality.

The main concept of the brand can be best of all described by its advertising slogan saying Keep it simple! Dont think about the impression you make on the others, just be yourself. Simplicity, functionality, positivity, dynamic, quality and comfort, as well as moderate prices are typical characteristics of GAS clothes. The logo of the brand represents two intersecting rainbows. Company legend says this act of nature was seen by Claudio Grotto after a storm in Cape Town and inspired him to such extent he took it as a basis for his creation.

During the first years of its existence the company sold not only tailor made jeans by GAS, but also denim clothes by other established brands. However the success of GAS denim collections in Italy encouraged its establisher to give up distribution and expand the brand onto European markets. After Europe GAS begins to sell its production in the Far East, Arab countries and North America. Successful advertising contributes to the prosperity of the brand abroad. Today the company has its authorized departments in France, Spain, Germany, Great Britain and Hungary, as well as in Japan, India and Hong Kong.

By the way, speaking of advertising. GAS advertising campaigns generally are concentrated on scenes from real life and real people living next to us. The main idea is that even routine everyday situations can be bright and interesting. Besides, advertising campaigns of GAS brand are usually carried out on many different levels posters, advertising in modern magazines, video advertising on the website of the company all this depicting the same characters and their everyday life. For instance, in 2007 Grotto even issued a special magazine called MaGASine for this purpose.

Today jeans manufactured by GAS are sold in more than 56 countries all over the world and the number of GAS outlets has long ago come over 3000. Besides, the company sponsors many events, for example, it is an official partner of Repsol Honda team in MotoGP races.

Original clothes by GAS is manufactured in four main lines: GAS a stylish casual line of mens and womens wear, GAS Junior clothes line for children, taking account of all the latest fashion trends of the grown-ups wear. The childrens line includes outerwear, casual, shoes and accessories. GAS Denim a special line of customized jeans for young people, GAS Honda a line which is dedicated to Honda Company and concentrates on motooutfits. However, it is also popular among young people who prefer active leisure.

A Second Life For Fashion Used Clothing

A shopping mall in New Jersey displays T-shirts in a vibrant palette which looks trendy and is an up-to-date fashion. Far away in an African country, a young man happily strolls through a market wearing a T-shirt with an American logo printed on it. Though seemingly irrelevant, both panoramas are interconnected with each other through a line of clothing. How does clothing which is originally sold in the US end up in the clothing shelf of an African lad? Globalization and recycling of used clothing work together to make this possible. The journey of a garment does not end as a landfill all the time. They may be recycled in two ways; either it will be sold again as used clothing or will be shredded and mechanically recycled into raw material for the manufacture of other recycled apparel products.

A resale or used or second hand clothing encompasses the following:

Classic Vintage: Here garments from the past eras are sold.
Thrift: where storefronts like Salvation Army, and flea markets sell used clothing.
Consignment: where clothes that are 1 to 2 years old and are in good condition are sold individually through the owners through stores that share a percentage of the sale price. This is good option to buy designer clothes at a lesser price.

After the trade liberalization in the 90s, there has been a remarkable increase in the demand for used clothes. Cities like London, and Philadelphia export used clothing in 50 kilogram bales through their wholesalers. Mostly used clothing is being exported from US, and to African countries like Cameroon, Ghana, and Benin. T-shirts, bins and trousers are sorted first, and then quality garments are taken to vintage stores for resale. The bales are transported for a long distance to be sold to the local vendors. Majority of the people in many developing countries wear used clothes on a daily basis. Countries on the bottom of the economic scale like Zambia rely on imported second hand clothing. The wardrobes of many families in Zambia have only used clothing. A survey conducted in US states that approximately 15% of the discarded clothing is given for resale, and around 12-15% of the Americans shop for their clothing at the resale stores.

Flea Markets:

Used clothing is one of the most popular things sold in the flea markets. Childrens used clothing sell more and faster comparatively over adult clothing because kids grow up and clothing sizes change very quickly. Here also some basic selling skills are required like taking care of the quality and style, and not selling clothes that are completely out of fashion. A large quantity of clothing is usually sold through discount bins where people select the garments kept in a big bin.

The current era of internet boosts up the resale of clothing. Many people sell their old clothing directly to other individuals through sites like eBay. Consignment and thrift shops are also becoming increasingly popular, growing at a rate of 5% every year providing options for the sale of used clothing. These clothes are being utilized in many ways; efficiently. Some of them even undergo a fundamental treatment and are being transformed into completely a different clothing; altogether. Threads from a woolen sweater may be wound up into balls which are used for embroidering on costly materials while manufacturing womens slips. Tailors buy small pieces of clothes, sew them together, dye them and sell it in the market as bed linen. The US Government offers tax benefits to people who donate their clothing and household goods to institutions like Salvation Army.

Fast Fashion and Womens Psychology:

The springing up of Fast Fashion also motivates the increase in the market for used clothing. The emergence of a new fad every single day makes the older trend go obsolete very quickly. People who dress to impress go in par with the current trend. These people discard their clothing even when they are still new. These clothes are sold in the used cloth markets or exported to other countries for the same purpose. Much of these are womens clothing, because women tend to buy more garments and discard them quickly as compared with men. The total garment supply of womens clothing is almost seven times more than of mens. Due to this, in the used clothing market mens clothing are available at a price four to five times costlier then that of womens clothing.

There has been a controversial discussion during the recent past that exporting used clothing to the developing countries must be banned. The reason people buy used clothing is due to their poverty wherein they cannot afford to buy new ones. These clothes have also developed a new industry in these countries and have generated employment opportunities for many people. In Europe approximately 1, 00,000 people, and 10,000 people in Germany are employed in the textile recycling jobs. Second hand clothing has a history, as old as manufacturing of clothes itself. A profitable market for used clothing is conspicuous both in the urban and village areas.

Tips On T-Shirt Fashion

Along with jeans, t-shirts are perhaps the worlds most ubiquitous fashion item not bad for a garment that started out life as underwear. Since World War Two, t-shirts have gone from strength to strength, and today its rare to meet someone who doesnt have a t-shirt in their wardrobe.

But since theyre so common, its easy to become bored of wearing t-shirts quickly. Looking for new ways to wear a t-shirt? Heres a few tips for men and women on t-shirt fashion.

In Praise Of Plain T-Shirts

For some men and women, theres nothing better than a plain white t-shirt. It might sound boring, but plain white tees are versatile and timeless: theyll never go out of style. But if youre going to wear a plain white t-shirt properly, youll have to make sure the style suits you. For instance, most men plump for a crew neck white t-shirt with short sleeves as the default option. If youre of a more muscular physique, you may suit a t-shirt thats a little tighter in the body, while men with beer bellies should ensure their t-shirts are loose-fitting and several inches longer than waist-length, to provide ample coverage.

In the same vein, women with large chests often look more flattering in a v-neck t-shirt with short sleeves or a scoop neck t-shirt with three-quarter length sleeves. Its all about making sure that your body shape looks in proportion. Notably, some fashion experts suggest avoiding white altogether if you have a large chest as it may overemphasise your assets. It completely depends on your body shape, but if you think white t-shirts dont quite suit you, try a dark colour instead. Black or navy, for instance, may have a slimming effect.

Printed And Graphic Tees

Tie-dye might have been big in the 1960s and 1970s, but since the 1990s printed t-shirts have become the norm. From slogans to characters from Sesame Street, theres no limit to what t-shirts may have printed on them in 2012. If youre replenishing your stock of t-shirts, look for graphic tees that suit your own personality. If youre a music or film buff, look for t-shirts with prints of famous films and album covers. The cover of Joy Divisions album Unknown Pleasures, for instance, is a design thats gained a lot of cache on t-shirts over the past few decades.

If you want to go graphic-lite but need something more arresting that a plain t-shirt, go for a simple but colourful striped design instead. Its also worth considering a t-shirt with a comic slogan, or a simple image like a piece of fruit or a plant as well to add another dimension to your t-shirt collection.

Prom Dress Fashion Tips

Prom time is here again. You pay for your ticket, grab a dress, and go, right? Seems simple, right? Wrong! Prom can be a whirlwind experience that requires a lot of primping and preparation. Not every girl can just waltz in a store, run to the first rack they see, and come out with a fabulous prom dress right away. There are also some girls uneasy with the selection they see at some stores that don’t seem to cater to their personal sense of style. You can always look through prom magazines and celebrity pictures for inspiration but the real style inspiration starts with yourself! Just because prom is a glamorous event doesn’t mean that you have to compromise your own, unique sense of fashion to blend in with everyone else. Prom isn’t just for cheerleaders and beauty queens. Here’s how to make your look your own on prom night:

Rock Goddess

Prom may seem like the last place any punk rocker would be caught dead at, especially in a floor length pink gown. With a sense of style that some may already label as “anti-trendy”, it may cause a little bit of nervousness to think about being constricted to a girly dress that doesn’t speak to your own grungy sense of fashion. You don’t spend time lusting over the pages of VOGUE magazine and shopping at teen stores in the mall. You aren’t late for school in the morning dolling yourself up in the mirror with MAC makeup and curling every follicle of hair just right. You have instead sculpted your own, comfortable wardrobe consisting of jeans, rocker t-shirts, hoodies, and sneakers that were meant to get worn in and dirty. Prom should be about individuality and that has always come natural to you, so let your style speak for itself. Not every prom dress on the market is all about frills and bows. Try a short prom dress in a plaid or striped print or a cut glass sweetheart sequin bust with a tulle skirt, an essential rockstar style. If you’re not a fun of a full skirt there are plenty of options for fitted, short prom dresses accented allover with beading, spikes, and studs that are perfect for any punk princess. If the dress is fine, but you’re not accustomed to wearing heels go outside the norm and wear flats or even Converse or flat, Doc Marten style boots instead. Check out Sherri Hill and Mac Duggal for sassy baby doll dresses. Avril Lavigne and Kristen Stewart have perfected this tomboy-chic look and have become known for the punk rock, red carpet style. Throw on a leather jacket for added pizazz and you’re ready to go!

Flower Child

Is your style more reminiscent of a more groovy time in life? If Woodstock photographs and The Beatles posters clutter your walls and you are never seen without your guitar and a flower in your hair (shoes optional) you may be a love child of the 60’s. Sure, you weren’t born in the 60’s but you’re style reflects that to a tee. You are all about recycling and world peace. Prom may just seem like a waste of time and money, world of superficial glamour while you’re just fine with your flowy sundresses and organic fabrics. But not every prom dress is fitted and constricting. There are plenty of options for a breezy dress that is not only comfortable but very chic. Try an A-line prom dress in a flower or butterfly print pattern with a one shouldered or strapless bust in a light, breezy fabric. You get many more choices for accessories and shoes with a multicolored prom dress. Heels are great for prom, but if you want to stick to your comfortable look, try flat gladiator sandals decorated with jewels. Adorn your hair with rosettes or feathers, and you’ll look like an earth angel, prom style! La Femme and Jovani carry many beautiful printed prom dresses. Celebrity wise, Kate Hudson and Nicole Richie always look polished, but add their own elements of boho-chic to their look whenever they’re on the scene.

Quirky Queen

What if your style can’t be merely defined in a few words? One day you may want to look like a disco diva in a metallic dress and platform boots and the next a child of the 80’s in a mismatched, highlighter ensemble with tights and piled on accessories? You love fashion you don’t necessarily follow trends, but rather create your own and most importantly you’re not afraid to try any style. Though your clothing choices may leave even your own parents scratching their head at times, whatever you wear, you OWN the look. Prom is no different. Leave them speechless in a floor length, column silhouette prom dress with a removable tulle breakaway skirt. So versatile that you can create your own magic trick by starting the night with the tulle overlay attached, run to the restroom near the end of the dance, remove the tulle skirt and viola, a whole new dress! This style also comes in the form of a short, baby doll dress too. Lattice style back designs and cut outs also add an interesting appeal to any dress. Tony Bowls and Terani are just noted examples of designers who constantly bring fresh and funky designs to the prom market. Wear a fun hairband or bow accessories in your hair with color contrasting, piled on bracelets and rings. Instead of basic heels, try out booties instead. Take a page from the style book of fearless fashionistas like Katy Perry and Rihanna who never play by the rules when it comes to their own unique sense of fashion.

Play up your best features with the prom dress of choice in your specific style of dress. Part of what makes a girl confident and sexy is always staying true to who she is, not what others want her to be. Keep these simple tips in mind and happy shopping!

Fashion Jewelry Composition And Care Tips

How is costume jewelry made?

1. Manmade stones such as cubic zirconia, rhinestone, glass, or plastic are a primary component of most costume jewelry. The most popular of which is cubic zirconia because of its physical characteristics. It is used to create simulated versions of precious gemstones such as diamonds, rubies, sapphires, and emeralds. Its sparkly appeal and inexpensive price tag allow for much larger, more glitzy fashion pieces that instantly attract attention. Colored glass can also be used to simulate precious stones and faux pearls. Rhinestone jewelry is also popular because of its glitzy appeal and color choices. Epoxy and acrylic are plastics that is often used to make inexpensive bead jewelry.

Instead of manmade stones sometimes semiprecious stones such as pearls, topaz, black opal, amethyst, or peridot are used to provide a more fine jewelry appeal.

2. A base metal such as tin, copper, brass, nickel, aluminum or a combination of metals that has been altered to resemble more precious metals (e.g. gold). This is achieved by a variety of methods including:

tone: Have you ever heard of costume jewelry that is referred to as silver or gold tone? This means just what the name implies. Tone refers to the color of the metal only. Gold and silver tone jewelry are silver and gold in color but contain no actual gold or silver.

electroplating: This is probably the most common method. In this process an electric current is used to deposit a thin layer, as little as 2 mils (a mil is one millionth of an inch) onto the base alloy metal which is immersed in a salt bath solution of the precious metal that will be used to plate the object.

layering: This method also utilizes the process of electroplating. However, the plated object is immersed for a longer period of time allowing for a much thicker layer of precious metal to be deposited. Layered gold or silver may consist of approximately 20-50 mils of gold or silver. Although it doesn’t sound like much, this thicker layer results in a much more durable, longer lasting jewelry piece especially when coated with a protective material such as Tarniban which is an organic substance that provides a protective shield and adds to the hardness of the metal.

overlay: This method utilizes heat rather than electricity to combine the base metal with the precious metal to form a new alloy. This creates a permanent bond between the metals which creates jewelry that can be as durable and long lasting as the real thing with proper care. Gold overlay jewelry is also sometimes referred to as gold filled. It is generally safer for sensitive skin than costume jewelry made by other methods.

Technibond: This is considered to be one of the most desired methods of gold plating because it uses a full 40 mils of 14kt gold over .925 sterling silver. For gold and silver lovers it is the best of both worlds. However, as with any plated item, a protective coating should be added for best results.

vermeil: Vermeil is considered to be the absolute best in gold plating. This type of jewelry contains as much as 100 mils of gold over .925 sterling silver and as you can expect is also a bit pricier. It may be worth it for someone looking for something closer to the real thing without paying the exorbitant price for solid gold.

3. Costume jewelry may also consist of odd materials such as wood, stone, and shell which can be either natural or colored.

Caring for your costume jewelry

Although costume jewelry doesn’t require much of an investment, it is still important to get the most bang for your buck by taking proper care of your jewelry by following a few simple steps:

NEVER allow costume jewelry to come in contact with oils, soaps, perfumes, or any harsh chemicals which can fade or even ruin the item.

ALWAYS remove jewelry before sports, swimming, exercising, washing hands, showering, cleaning, doing laundry, or applying lotions or creams.

NEVER store jewelry wet. Always dry with a soft cloth before storing.

Store your jewelry items seperately in sealable bags to prevent scratching.

Store jewelry in a clean, dry, cool, not cold place away from heat and dust.

When cleaning, be gentle! Use a soft toothbrush and jewelry cleaner that specifically states that it is safe for costume jewelry. Make sure it does not contain acid, alcohol, or ammonia. Only use jewelry cleaner as directed. DO NOT over scrub.

Only use a cloth specially made for jewelry when buffing.

Regularly check for loose stones.

Why choose costume jewelry?

Costume jewelry, also referred to as fashion jewelry, is a fun and inexpensive way to express your own unique style. Its less costly composition means that it is easy to get your moneys worth of use out of it and allows for a much larger variety of bigger, bolder, attention grabbing colors and styles that can be mixed and matched according to your mood or wardrobe.
